Still nesting OK?

This Curlew is still in place on the nest in the garden of the ANU facility near one of the car parks , but I still have not seen its partner all week.

Mindil Beach Sunset Market over until May 2008

I had a quick trip to a very crowded Mindil Beach Sunset Market now finished until May 2008.

It was a huge crowd, and car parking was difficult so I left early
to avoid traffic jams,especially after the fireworks later.

Evening at the waterfront

With Hughie's London based girl-friend Keira, now in Darwin. we enjoyed an evening meal at The Jetty at Stokes Hill Wharf Precinct.

Crocodile in the library...

The CDU Practice Firms were having a 10th Anniversary Trade Fair and Pre- Xmas sales and offered photo taking with a live crocodile.

A walk through the car park

As I was bringing one of my cameras in today I snapped a few shots on campus. I took this shot with a long lens, only to be told a few minutes later by a colleague that there was a domestic cat under my car, I hope this Curlew is safe as I have not seen its mate for a few days!


I then changed my lens to wide angle for these shots of the library building.

Last Sunday evening Mindil Beach Market for the year

It was the last Sunday evening Mindil Beach Market for the year until next May so was quite busy.






The local artillery soldiers do a Charity Gun carriage run at this time each year.

Darwin Sailing Club Friday night...

Well it was Friday night, what better than to have a meal with my son at the DSC.
Sunset was glorious of course. Also I have now uploaded over 2000 photos to my digital album at Flickr.com

Bush Thick-knee/Bush Stone Curlews at ANU facillity

As I went to my car park tonight I saw this Curlew. I had my cameras with me and got a few shots.He started to hiss at me and it was then that I realised he was protecting his mate on the nest quite a distance away from where I saw him.





The natural camouflage makes them hard to spot

A slight detour on the way home ...to Fogg Dam

There is not a lot of water at Fogg Dam right now but still lots of bird life




This Tarpon met up with Darter which swam for quite a while with it speared through its beak.
