Bush Thick-knee/Bush Stone Curlews at ANU facillity

As I went to my car park tonight I saw this Curlew. I had my cameras with me and got a few shots.He started to hiss at me and it was then that I realised he was protecting his mate on the nest quite a distance away from where I saw him.





The natural camouflage makes them hard to spot

A slight detour on the way home ...to Fogg Dam

There is not a lot of water at Fogg Dam right now but still lots of bird life




This Tarpon met up with Darter which swam for quite a while with it speared through its beak.

Mamukala Wetlands

A place I have sometimes missed and regretted is Mamukala Wetlands so I made sure we stopped there soon after leaving Jabiru. The late dry/early buildup to the wet is the best time and we were not disappointed here either.

Ubirr

We took a late afternoon trip to Ubirr, saw some of the rock paintings and watched for a while as the sun set over the flood plains.

The Yellow Waters Cruise a must....

I was delighted that for our 0645 cruise we had Team Leader Michael, who always gives a great commentary and was not disappointed.

A brief sojourn to Kadadu National Park

With Barbara in Darwin for some training last week we took the opportunity for a quick visit this week to the Kakadu National Park, especially the Yellow Waters cruise at Cooinda and then a trip to the aboriginal rock art at Ubirr. The bird life was stunning and there were very many crocodiles.

Lakeview Cabins at Jabiru

These cabins are marginally cheaper than the the expensive Crocodile Hotel but are nice and are well appointed although its quitea drive to the local pool

Great concert, very well attended at Darwin Sailing Club.
