I was lucky to have the opportunity to attend the Australian and New Zealand Institute for Information Literacy 6th Symposium, held in Brisbane. I stayed on the 24th floor of the Oaks, North Quay. The view was good!


I walked each day down to the other end of this river to South Bank Institute.
Mere coincidence that on the Friday morning at dawn there was a hot air balloon over South Bank!!


There were over 80 attendees from Australia and New Zealand, from TAFE and higher education, from school and law and other special libraries. I caught up with old acquaintances like James Duncan from Victoria University, Wellington,New Zealand and Bronte Cerny from the University of South Australia

Helen Reynold from The SouthPort School wowed us all with her enthusiasm for information literacy in an all boys school.She is here with Judith Peacock

Debbie Orr, fresh from the Lifelong Learning Conference with Cecily Martina, who broke her wrist the previous week whilst getting this event organised!


Bev Hodges, from Bay of Plenty was as passionate about her area of New Zealand as she was speaking about information literacy

Time was allowed for plenty of formal and informal networking, this was one of the workshops.

Sheila Webber, from Sheffield and Bill Johnston from Strathclyde, two UK authorities on Information Literacy were keynote speakers.Sheila's blog information-literacy.blogspot.com

A quiet weekend

Had lunch at The Wharf with Jeanette who flew out on Saturday evening. This ship was in town, funny that the V8 racing was on this weekend!

Went to the uni on Sunday for a spot of photography. Chased this complaining Ibis for a photo

and then saw these colourful Rainbow Lorikeets enjoying the nectar.

Sunday morning at Fogg Dam

I know, I know, I go there a lot. Today was great with us seeing this goanna on the side of the road. I fell down and now have a pain in the ........

Then we went along the Dam wall and saw the usual birds but special today was seeing a couple of Jabiru and a crocodile.

Saw these ducks,

which is something we don't see in great numbers. There were plenty of magpie geese though. Coming back,just past Window on the Wetland I spotted another Jabiru.It flew away so I walked down a bit,

only to see this big crocodile, perhaps 3 metres long, just down the side of the road!

Pleasant Saturday evening........

Jeanette and I picnicked on the cliffs at Dripstone Coastal Reserve.


This was a good evening, the sunset was great with a range of colours.

A great meal as usual at the Darwin Sailing Club, chatting drinking wine and enjoying the view!

A new acquaintance checks out the food in Darwin

As I have said before, the Road Kill Cafe at Mindil Beach market is interesting,
their motto "You kill it we will grill it!"
I escorted an Alice Springs student,Jeanette to the Mindil Beach market.As it turned out,
Jeanette is a longtime friend and workmate of my Adelaide friend Terry.
Its a small world or talk about six degrees of separation!!

Ten Canoes

Thanks to Jessie and Rod ,I was able to go to the Darwin launch of the new Rolf De Heer film, "Ten Canoes."

The launch was great, held in a multiplex in Darwin with actually 3 theatres opened for the crowd. Rolf De Heer introduced some of the crew.

It was a fun night with a great crowd, I chatted with Sharyn and Elaine from Framed Gallery and their friends.

The after party was held at the
Northern Territory Parliament House.

David was enjoying himself.
He encouraged the movie to be made
and whilst he did not appear in the movie, his was the storyteller's voice which was done with a lot of humour.

This was another one of the lead stars Crusoe Kurddall.

He played Ridjimiraril , a man with 3 wifes

A lovely tropical night!

Went to "The Jetty" restaurant with Pauline and Lindsey, oh such a balmy tropical evening! Eating seafood buffet on the waterfront............


Still yet to do the Darwin Harbour Cruise, maybe tomorrow night?
